01 / What is YimMenu

What YimMenu actually is

YimMenu is a community-built mod menu for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. It is distributed as a DLL that you load into the running game, where it draws its own in-game overlay. The project is open source under the GPL-2.0 licence.

There are two generations. The original menu — now called YimMenu Legacy or v1 — was described by its maintainers as protecting against a wide range of public crashes. Its GitHub repository was archived on 1 February 2025 after a DMCA request from Take-Two Interactive. Development continues in YimMenuV2, an experimental menu for GTA 5: Enhanced.

The assembly board: what V2 is built from

We only list what the project documents publicly. The options inside the menu change between nightly builds, so treat the in-game menu itself as the source of truth for individual toggles.

Core module

An in-game overlay menu

Once injected at the main menu, YimMenuV2 draws its own interface on top of GTA V Enhanced. Everything the menu does is reached from that overlay, and because the project ships nightly, the exact set of options can shift from one build to the next.

M-01

Open source, GPL-2.0

The C++ source is on GitHub, so anyone can read, build or audit it, and changes arrive through public pull requests.

M-02

Automated nightly builds

GitHub Actions publishes each build to a rolling nightly release — fixes arrive fast, and so can new bugs.

M-03

Designed to pair with FSL

The documented setup adds FSL, which keeps account save data on your local disk. Progress made with FSL active only appears while FSL is active, so decide before you start.

M-04

Built for the Enhanced edition

V2 targets GTA V Enhanced rather than the original release now called Legacy, which the archived first-generation menu was built for.

M-05

Public issues and discussions

Crashes, bugs and ideas are logged in the open — usually the fastest way to find out whether a game update has broken the current build.

03 / How it works

Four stations on the assembly line

Each station produces something the next one needs. Skip one, and the menu either never appears or does not behave.

  1. Download

Take YimMenuV2.dll from the nightly release on the project’s GitHub repository.

    OutputYimMenuV2.dll on disk
  2. Install

Optionally drop FSL’s WINMM.dll into the game folder, and keep a DLL injector such as Xenos ready.

  3. Configure

Turn BattlEye off in the Rockstar Games Launcher settings. Steam and Epic copies may also need -nobattleye.

Pre-flight checklist

  • GTA V Enhanced on PC (not the Legacy edition)
  • A backup copy of Documents/GTAV Enhanced/Profiles
  • Files only from the YimMenu GitHub repository
  • You have read the safety notice further down this page
  • You know where your security software keeps quarantined files
  1. Download the nightly build

Open the YimMenuV2 repository, go to Releases and download YimMenuV2.dll from the nightly release.

Nightly builds are testing builds and come without warranty.
  2. Add FSL (optional, recommended)

Place FSL’s WINMM.dll in your GTA V Enhanced game directory. Progress made with FSL only shows while FSL is installed.

  3. Prepare an injector

Any standard DLL injector works; the README mentions Xenos. Keep it in its own folder, away from random bundles.

  4. Disable BattlEye

Rockstar Games Launcher → GTA V Enhanced → Settings → turn BattlEye off. On Steam or Epic you may also need the -nobattleye launch parameter.

  5. Launch and inject

Start GTA V and wait for the main menu. Inject YimMenuV2.dll, then press INSERT or Ctrl + \.

07 / Use cases

Where YimMenu fits — and where it doesn’t

A menu is a tool; how you use it decides your risk and whether anyone else is affected. It is not a tool for disrupting other people’s sessions.

  1. Story Mode experimentation

Exploring the single-player world with BattlEye switched off keeps other players out of the picture entirely.

  2. Private, invite-only testing

The README points to invite-only sessions as the way around public-session desyncs. Rockstar’s terms still apply there.

  3. Studying how a game menu is built

With the full C++ source on GitHub, V2 is a readable reference for overlays, game hooks and how a large mod project is organised.

  4. Contributing to open source

Clear bug reports, reproductions and pull requests go through the repository’s issues and discussions.

  5. Keeping experiments away from your normal save

FSL keeps save data on disk, separating menu-era progress from what your account normally shows.

Group SET — editions, files, tools and launching.

YimMenu is a free, open-source mod menu for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. It runs as an in-game overlay that is loaded into the game with a DLL injector. Current development happens in YimMenuV2, which its developers describe as an experimental menu for GTA 5: Enhanced; the original menu is now usually called YimMenu Legacy.

They target different editions of the game. YimMenu Legacy, the first-generation menu, was built for the original PC release now called GTA V Legacy, and since its GitHub repository was archived it is distributed as binary-only releases. YimMenuV2 targets GTA V Enhanced and keeps its source code public on GitHub under GPL-2.0.

YimMenuV2 is written for GTA V Enhanced, so the Legacy edition is not its target. Players on the Legacy edition are in the territory of the first-generation menu, which is no longer published on GitHub. Check which edition your launcher starts before downloading anything.

The active project lives in the YimMenu/YimMenuV2 repository. The original YimMenu/YimMenu repository was archived on 1 February 2025 and is read-only; after a DMCA request its source code was removed, and it now keeps only documentation and a note about where Legacy builds are distributed.

No, but the developers recommend it. The README calls FSL optional but highly recommended for account safety. It is installed by placing its WINMM.dll file in the GTA V game directory, and it reroutes save data to your disk — which means progress made with FSL only appears while FSL is installed.

Any standard DLL injector can load YimMenuV2.dll; the README names Xenos as one example. Injectors are separate third-party tools and are not hosted on this site. Avoid bundles that package an injector together with a menu from an unknown source.

After injecting the DLL, press the INSERT key. On keyboards without an Insert key, use Ctrl + \ (backslash). The game window needs to have focus when you press the shortcut.

Launch the game first and wait until it reaches the main menu, then inject. That is the timing the README specifies, and injecting earlier — during start-up or loading screens — is a common cause of crashes.

The README covers all three PC storefronts. BattlEye is turned off in the Rockstar Games Launcher settings for GTA V Enhanced; if you own the game on Steam or Epic Games, you may also need to add the -nobattleye launch parameter.

No. YimMenu is a Windows DLL that is loaded into the PC version of GTA V. There is no console version, and nothing on the project’s pages describes support for macOS.

Group ACC — account risk, known issues and project history.

It depends which kind of safety you mean. As a file, YimMenuV2 is open source and built from public code, so the main file risk comes from modified copies on other websites. As far as your account is concerned, using any mod menu in GTA Online is against Rockstar’s terms and can lead to penalties. Our safety guide covers both sides in detail.

Yes, it is possible. Mod menus are not permitted in GTA Online, BattlEye anti-cheat has been part of GTA V on PC since September 2024, and community forums contain many reports of suspensions and bans. No setup, including FSL, can guarantee that an account will be unaffected.

YimMenuV2 does not include a BattlEye bypass, so its README instructs you to disable BattlEye in the launcher. With BattlEye off, Story Mode runs normally, but public GTA Online sessions will not behave as usual.

According to the README, it is because there is no BattlEye bypass: legitimate session hosts detect a heartbeat failure and remove you. It is expected behaviour rather than a bug. Story Mode and invite-only sessions avoid it, although Rockstar’s terms still apply online.

Usually not. FSL keeps its own save data on your disk, so progress made while FSL was installed only shows up while FSL is installed. Without FSL you see your normal save. Re-installing FSL makes the FSL progress visible again.

The README lists this as a known issue. The documented fix is to delete the Documents/GTAV Enhanced/Profiles folder. Renaming the folder instead of deleting it keeps a way back if you need one.

Injecting code into another running program is how mod menus work, but it is also a technique malware uses, so security tools often flag it. A warning is a reason to confirm the file came from the YimMenu repository, not to switch your protection off.

Menus are built against the internals of a specific game version, so an update can make a build crash or refuse to load. The fix is to wait for a new nightly build that supports the updated game; the repository’s issues are the quickest place to see whether an update broke it.

In September 2024 Take-Two Interactive sent a DMCA request concerning YimMenu-related code on GitHub. The maintainer took the source down, and the repository was archived on 1 February 2025. Development continued as YimMenuV2, and the original menu moved to binary-only releases.

No. This is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the YimMenu developers, Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, and it does not host any YimMenu files. The download button points to the project’s own GitHub repository.
